This is mostly a placeholder until I get back home to my book and can write a proper essay on Ushahin's latest memory. This is a fairly important ability of his, though how it'll be used in Sabra I'm not quiiite sure.

Shadow-walking.

Stat Sheet

Aivy's original post
cheat sheet )

Hit Points: S (in that it takes a lot to kill him. he's not hard to take down, just out)
Magic Points: S
Strength: F
Defense: D (physical) S (mental)
Magic: S
Magic Defense: C (physical) S (mental)
Intelligence: A
Wisdom: S
Will: S
Dexterity: D
Speed: D
Stamina: A (in that he doesn't stop just because he's tired and hurting)
Health: D

These stats look kinda confusing because Ushahin is at once very frail and very strong. He's half-human, half-Ellyl (read: elf), and therefore has lots of Ellyl abilities, including an extended lifespan, magical abilities, and the ability to live through everything but the worst of physical traumas. However, his very sturdy body was essentially beaten to death with rocks when he was a child, and healed poorly. So it is very difficult to kill him, but he exists in a state of permanent weakness and pain.

His magic is all mental and mind-related, so he has no particular defense against fighting magic beyond what the bracer gives him, but it is pretty difficult to attack his mental defenses without him crawling into his attacker's mind and doing terrible things in there. His other magical abilities are dreamwalking, walking-in-the-inbetween (basically, traveling great distances through the subconscious of other people), talking to ravens, and soothing animals with his mind.

Character Stats/Power Retention

Age: several centuries, at least (and probably pushing up on 1000+ years)--but appears to be a young man (probably late 20s)
Height: tall, but often slumps or carries his head low (~6')
Weight: thin, wiry, fitting to his height (~170-180lbs)
Eyes: very pale blue. One is permanently dilated all the way, the other is often contracted but still changes properly with the light.
Hair: long and silver-blond
Appearance: From the back, Ushahin looks like a beautiful, healthy Ellyl (elf, basically). He's tall and straightbacked and finely boned. He has long, pretty blond hair, and a sure step. From the front, however, he's another story entirely. Beaten as a child and left for dead, one half of his face is sunken in, and the pupil on that side is permanently blown. That eye sits a bit lower than the other, on the half of his face that is mostly intact. His cheekbone on the intact side is high and sharp, and the muscles stick out a bit like they're knotted. All his expressions tend to be crooked, as the sunken half of his face doesn't move well. His hands are also crippled--obviously once long and pretty fingers are twisted and knuckly from being quite thoroughly broken when he was a child. He still has some use of his hands, but fine motor skills are beyond their capability (ex-he can hold a fork clumsily but well enough to eat, but cannot use a knife or write with a pen.). He tries to keep them covered. When he faces people, he tends to keep his head down and his hair over his face and only one eye visible or turned toward a person at a time unless he's making the effort to intimidate. Often his head is turned to one side--keeping the sunken side from obvious view. Most people find looking him full in the face to be anywhere between unsettling and actively disturbing, and one character says that meeting his eyes could drive someone mad. Due to my failure at shoopery, his icons are not nearly as disturbing as actually looking at Ushahin should be. His facial expressions will rarely change unless he is either very comfortable with a person or very emotional, because he knows that they are even more disturbing than his neutral face.

Character Name: Ushahin
Unit: Monoceros (#eee9e9)
Description of powers: Dreamwalking: he can observe the dreams of others as he chooses, and can implant ideas through the subconscious of dreamers.
Shadow-walking: he can walk through the 'space between', cutting travel time between long distances. From inside Shadow, he can directly kill someone by severing their link to the world.
Illusion-making: causes people to have hallucinations--feel fear, hear voices, see things that are not there. purely mental.
Animal communication: he can speak to birds and possibly other small animals.
Elven abilities: difficult to kill except with steel weaponry, heals from grievous wounds, sees well in low light
Were abilities: good at tracking, pathfinding, moving quietly.
Strength/Extent of powers:
Innate: Elven, Were abilities are either racial or utterly habitual to the point of instinct.
Memory related: Dreamwalking, shadow-walking, illusion-making, animal communication.
Relation to memory: Dreamwalking: power given by Satoris--once he regains the memory of being granted the ability, the knowledge of how to do so will come with it. Before this he may accidentally observe dreams, but with no control and likely no realization of what he's doing.
Shadow-walking: learned ability, but the process is never mentioned--this will likely come back to him piecemeal and accidentally. It's something he can do, but doesn't realize he can do, so will probably do it accidentally at first (as in, to hide from danger), and then have to figure out what he did and how it works.
Illusion-making: is part and parcel of dreamwalking, so he'll get them back together.
Animal communication: affinity is habitual, but specific communicative abilities were granted by the Grey Dam. They don't involve any spellwork, however, so he will likely just find that he can understand some creatures.
